Welcome to Reunion 2014

Register now thru April 15, 2014 and you will receive the early-bird rate of $295; that's more than 20 percent off the regular registration fee of $375.  Registration rates go up to $325 on April 16, 2014 and again to the full fee of $375 on July 1, 2014, so don't delay! Fees include most reunion activities and some meals, and after you register, you can take advantage of discounted room rates of just $119 per night offered by the Westin La Paloma.  As a special welcome to 2009 Cast members attending their first-ever reunion, the same registration fee, $295, applies all the way to the first day of the event.

In addition to serious savings, early registrants may help their cast win a beautiful suite upgrade, giving your crew a fantastic place to party, relax and reconnect with friends.  The suite upgrade will be awarded to the cast that purchases the most early registrations before April 1, 2014. So, what are you waiting for?

Up with People reunions are an unforgettable opportunity to spend precious time with old friends and refresh the bonds you made on the road, as well as a great way to meet new friends across the eras.  There are dozens of activities throughout the weekend for alum and their friends and family of all ages.  Cast K and Cast T/Camp UWP are available for those alumni with 6 to 18 year old students attending. And Saturday's calendar is brimming with opportunities to relive your tour experience, punctuated by the enormously popular era shows on that night. Special performances will also highlight the current Up with People show!

In addition, there will be a special tribute to Up with People icon Lynne Morris on Wednesday night, July 23rd at 8 pm. There is an additional charge of $40 for this special event, with net proceeds to benefit the UWP Scholarship Fund.

The Reunion 2014 early registration fee of $295 and is available January 6th through April 15, 2014.  On April 16, the fee goes up to $325; on July 1 through the reunion weekend, the fee tops at $375.  If your cast does not win the suite upgrade, there will be a limited number of suites available for purchase on the website after you register for Reunion 2014.

REUNION 2014

FAQs

Have a question about reunion? Send it to faq@uwpiaa.org. If it's a general question that applies to all alumni, we'll post the answer here.

How do I know if it's my reunion year?
Your reunion year is every 5-year anniversary of the year you STARTED traveling. So, for instance, if you were in a cast that had staging in 1979, your reunion would be this year -- 2014. The exception is all of the casts from 1965 through 1970. Their reunion is always in years ending in 0 and 5 -- even the casts from 1966, 67, 68 and 69. This is because most people started at various times during the year and traveled multiple years at that time, and having the reunion for that entire 5-year group together allows them to see everyone they traveled with.
A special welcome to Casts A & B 2009 for their very first reunion!

What is appropriate attire for Reunion?
Tucson in July is warm, some say hot! We suggest you bring comfortable "Resort style" clothing that will work both inside the Hotel and poolside. La Paloma has some great pools so be sure to bring your swimsuit. Attire is very casual with the programs on Friday morning & evening "Business Casual" at most.
On Saturday there will be Era show rehearsals, so think back to what you wore on show days during rehearsal. Whatever you are wearing Saturday evening to attend the Era Show, will be what you perform in.

Can we reserve a special room for a Cast Activity?
The Alumni Association has use of the entire property during Reunion 2014. If you would like to reserve a room for a Cast Activity, please check with the Reunion Staff to make arrangements. Many rooms with sound systems are available for use as a "Dance/Party" room in the evenings after scheduled activities.

I have a mature 5-year-old. Why can’t he be in Cast K?
We have established 6-years-old as the minimum age and it would not be fair to make exceptions, either to the other kids participating or to the people who generously volunteer their time to run Cast K.

Who can have a table at the Alumni Marketplace?
This is an opportunity for alumni to share their business, sell/promote products, and network. Vendors receive one 6-foot table and two chairs in a prominent display area for 2 days, Friday 7 Saturday. Products and services displayed are subject to approval by the UWPIAA Alumni Marketplace committee. We do not provide staff for your booths, so please plan accordingly.

Is there a dinner Saturday night?
There is no scheduled group dinner for all of those attending Reunion 2014 Saturday night. Era show rehearsals end in the late afternoon and there is a break until the Era Show begins at 7:00pm. We have asked the Hotel to put together reasonably priced buffets. Private rooms are available by reservation on a first come/first served basis. If you are interested in having a private room for your Cast. Please make reservations through the Azul Restaurant at La Paloma.

How are the cast lists for the registration contests determined?
Cast lists are extracted from the UWPIAA database. These lists are used to determine the total cast count for the contests.

Are there always extra tickets available for the Era Show?
Not always. We first have to make sure we have space for all registered reunion attendees. If there is space, it might be standing room only, and it will be announced at reunion.

The one and only Lynne Morris is the 2014 UWPIAA inductee into the Up with People Songwriters’ Hall of Fame! Her invaluable contributions to the creation of Up with People shows over a 30-year span and her consulting work with Up with People and UWPIAA will be gratefully acknowledged when she is inducted into the Hall of Fame at Reunion 2014 on Friday, July 25 at the Westin La Paloma Hotel in Tucson, Arizona.
Lynne will be also be saluted at the Songwriters’ Café on Wednesday, July 23. This popular event recognizes the creative geniuses behind UWP shows and lets guests celebrate the new inductees with fantastic live music, singing, dancing and professionally-produced videos. All alumni are invited to sing (and dance!) along to UWP tunes performed by past year Songwriter honorees. The great Pat Murphy and Ken Ashby will be anchoring the house band, with special guest appearances by UWP legends Herb Allen and the Colwell brothers. Many other talented musicians, singers, and dancers will be featured in this evening of song and dance performed as only those trained and encouraged by Lynne can do. Admission to this special event is $40. Tickets can be purchased on the UWPIAA website, with limited on-site sales based on availability.
Do you have a special “Lynne moment?” All alumni are invited to share a photo or a written tribute to Lynne that will be included in the event program and a scrapbook created just for her as a gift from all alumni across the eras. You can submit photos (with captions, please) or written memories via email to Eduardo Aguirre, E84, Mexico at aguirre.edu@gmail.com.
If you don’t plan to attend Reunion 2014 but do want to join in the Lynne Morris events, you can still take advantage of the discounted UWPIAA hotel rate at the La Paloma for just $119 per night. This special room rate will be offered until June 18.
Ticket proceeds from the Songwriters’ Café benefit the UWPIAA  scholarship fund. Purchase your tickets today by going to www.uwpiaa.org and selecting the Eventinterface link on the Reunion 2014 page. Scroll down and choose the Lynne Morris Tribute in the Registration options menu near the bottom of the page. Don’t miss out! See you there!
