IS Chair Job Description

Description: In addition to the overall responsibilities of all BOG members the IS Chair will help to fulfill the mission of UWPIAA by leading the volunteer IT/IS Committee in maintaining the current website and tools, providing insight into new options in technology available, working with the Executive Committee and BOG in understanding and evaluating current and new systems, and assisting in the expansion of the impact of UWPIAA in the lives of the constituents through the use of technology.
Specific Responsibilities:
1) Overall responsibility for the UWPIAA website and tools. A comprehensive understanding of the underlying foundation of the current systems and tools in place in order to lead the maintenance and further development of these systems and tools. While the primary responsibility of the actual website content belongs to others the Chair is responsible to assure the content can be viewed and as necessary manipulated by those authorized. Maintains controls on accessibility to all areas of the website, database, tools and other IS functions only to those so authorized.
2) Act as Chair of the IT/IS committee. As chair you will lead the volunteer committee in the development and implementation of special projects relating to IT/IS as directed by the BOG for the benefit of UWPIAA. Strong communication skills and the ability to work around other obligations and geographic dispersion of the committee are vital.
3) Act as a visionary for the use of new technologies in support of UWPIAA and its mission. Must have the ability to see beyond the current systems to make recommendations on IT/IS issues and their potential impact on the strategic vision and further development of UWPIA.
4) Advisor to the BOG on technical issues. Be able to communicate IT/IS issues to non-technical oriented members of the BOG for the purpose of education, discussion, evaluation and potential approval.
5) Cost analysis and benefit evaluation of IT/IS options. Understand the fiduciary responsibilities and limitations of UWPIAA as well as the potential benefits to the organization when addressing IT/IS issues.
6) Website and tool accessibility to a varying range of constituent needs. An understanding of the differing needs of the members of UWPIAA in regards to age, culture and comfort level with technology in the use of our systems and tools is essential.
7) Database management and information extraction. Assure others have the ability to manage the membership database for content and accuracy of information. Responsible for providing either directly or through other volunteers information from the database as needed by UWPIAA or UWP for special projects and ongoing communication including an understanding of personal privacy issues and legal restraints. Work with UWP and the BOG to ensure data can be retrieved in a meaningful way as needs change.
Time Commitment: The IS Chair position requires a minimum of ten hours per week.
