Got a question about reunions? Send it to faq@uwpiaa.org, and if it's a general question that applies to all alumni, we'll post the answer here. |
Will you have a la carte pricing so we can purchase tickets to individual events?
We will not offer any a la carte tickets for individual events at Reunion 2008. We have found it very difficult to "recoup" the costs of reunion when offering a la carte options and that is why we have gone to a one-price registration. The price includes the big ticket items and the (perceived) lower ticket items which still cost us money to produce (technical equipment, staff, hotel services, all other hard costs have to spread over these smaller events too).
It is also very tough to manage registrations where there are lots of a la carte options. We have found that as an all-volunteer organization, the UWPIAA does better keeping things at the one-price package deal.
Why do hotel reservations open before you start reunion registration?
We stagger hotel reservations earlier than Reunion reservations for a purpose – to ensure that we will have good numbers, to know if we need to spend money on marketing mail outs, to encourage people to plan early and thus make for a success. Once the Westin La Paloma is completely booked, there will be cancellations, which is why you can put your name on a waiting list at Westin.
Why is reunion always in Tucson?
Tucson has been the home to UWP for years and has a great coming home atmosphere. There are many venues that can hold the UWP reunion – but the other costs surrounding Reunions have to be taken into consideration so the cost to attend reunion doesn’t get too high. The UWPIAA takes a very large financial risk when we contract for hotel rooms and and reunion facilities and equipment, so we need to be sure it will be successful. Tucson has great resorts, plus it has proven to be a desirable location for several years now, with a great turnout from alumni.
Why is there a cost to do CAP (community action program)? What is the purpose of CAP?
The cost for CAP is to cover the bus rental and box lunch we provide. The purpose of the program is to engage UWP alumni in international service and community outreach projects, sparking alumni, their family and friends to action in their global community.
Why do we you run airport shuttles only on Thursday and Sunday, when people arrive on Wednesday?
We have the shuttles available to us for 10 hours on Thursday & Sunday. Most resorts don’t offer this and we are lucky they have included this service to us. We have to pick time frames that can cover as many flight arrivals as possible. If we notice that more flights are coming in at a certain time we can adjust the schedule. That’s why it is important to list your flight arrival/departure times when you register, or go back later to add it.
I have a mature 5-year-old. Why can’t he be in Cast K?
We have established 6 as the minimum age, and it would not be fair to make exceptions, either to the other kids participating or to the people who generously volunteer their time to run Cast K.
Who can have a table at marketplace? Do you have to be registered for reunion to have a table?
This is an opportunity for alumni to share their business, sell/promote products, and network. Vendors receive one 6-foot table and two chairs in a prominent display area for 2 days. Products and services displayed are subject to approval by the UWPIAA Alumni Marketplace committee. We do not provide staff for your booths, so please plan accordingly. You must be registered for reunion to have a table.
How are the cast lists for the registration contests determined? Are staff members counted?
We will be sending cast lists to cast reps in January. All corrections to the cast lists will need to be submitted by February 15. These lists will be verified by reunion volunteers and will then be used to determine cast counts for the contests. Staff are included in cast numbers As long as the cast reps agree the person was on their staff. This may exclude some PR/EC staff since they sometimes spent very little time with one cast.
Are there always extra tickets available for the Era Show? Not always. We first have to make sure we have space for all registered reunion attendees. If there is space, it might be standing room only, and it will be announced at reunion.
